Operating Systems - Introduction to Synchronization

Course Description

In a computer operating system, Inter Process Communication (IPC) allows processes to communicate with each other by sharing data and synchronizing their actions. This course will teach you the 3 main ways to do this: Shared Memory, Message Passing, and Signals. The course will also discuss Process Synchronization, Rare Conditions, and Critical Section, as well as teach you possible solutions for when multiple processes are accessing the critical section. The different ways of using Interrupts and building solutions will also be tackled.

Bakery algorithm is a computing algorithm that ensures efficient use of shared resources in a multithreaded environment. This course will teach you how to use the Bakery Algorithm to assign a token number to each process that will is accessing the critical section so they access the section in order of their token. You will also learn how spinlocks, mutexes, and semaphores work. The course will also discuss how hardware can help with the critical section problem.

This free Operating Systems - Introduction to Synchronization course will teach you everything you need to know about Inter-process Communication in computer operating systems. You will need to have completed the previous courses 'Introduction to Operating Systems', 'Introduction to Memory Management', 'Introduction to Operating Systems Processes', 'Introduction to Operating Systems Interrupts' and 'Operating Systems Scheduling' prior to this course. So, if you have already taken those courses, check out this course now and get started on your next learning journey!
